How the big leagues are doing in the CL [R]

  • La Liga (ESP) 4-0-0
    Premiership (ENG) 2-2-0
    Serie A (ITA) 1-1-2
    Eridivisie (NED) 1-0-2
    Le Championatt (FRA) 0-2-1
    Bundesliga (GER) 0-3-0

About the supposed superiorty of La Liga, it's not bragging if you can back it up.

And WTH happened to the German sides?

Rather than ranking the big 6's performance by win-loss record, I'd rank it based upon points earned -- giving double credit for points earned on the road...

    5. Le Championatt 1 home pt, 0 road pts, 0.3 appt.

    6. Bundesliga 0 points (enough said).

HAHA we're ahead of the mighty Germans. Take that German fans !

  • Somewhat related, Spain still doing good at even the second level, going for 3-0-1 in UEFA Cup. Maybe Spanish football really is as good people make it out to be.

I think it's just as important to look at who the teams played and where they opened.

La Liga 4-0-0. Home wins for Barca & Valencia. Road wins for Real & Deportivo.

Premiership 2-2-0. Liverpool & Newcastle open on the road and lose, Arsenal & ManU win at home.

Serie A 1-1-2. Inter has a dissappointing tie, but it's still a point on the road. Juventus gains a point on the road against a good Feyenoord team. AC Milan wins at home and Roma succumbs to the Real juggernaut.

Eridivisie 1-0-2 Ajax holds points at home, Feyenoord gives up 2 at home and PSV Eindhoven gains a point on the road.

Le Championatt 0-2-1 Lyon & Lens open at Ajax & AC Milan with losses. Auxerre gives up 2 points at home with draw against Eindhoven.

Bundesliga 0-3-0 Bayern Munich lose 3-2 at home, Leverkusen and Dortmund lose on the road. You can hardly fault Leverkusen for losing (but losing 6-2 is pretty bad), nor can you fault Dortmund losing at Arsenal. BM's loss is not good.

Rather than ranking the big 6's performance by win-loss record, I'd rank it based upon points earned -- giving double credit for points earned on the road...

    1. La Liga 6 home pts, 6 road pts, 4.0 adjusted pts per team (appt)

    2. Eridivisie 4 home pts, 1 road pt, 2.0 appt

    3. Serie A 3 home pts, 2 road pts, 1.75 appt

    4. Premiership 6 home pts, 0 road pts, 1.5 appt

    5. Le Championatt 1 home pt, 0 road pts, 0.3 appt.

    6. Bundesliga 0 points (enough said).

  • I think Borussia Dortmund might be reliant upon Rosicky a bit too much. And if he isn't playing they are in trouble. But I have a sneaking feeling that the Munich side is gonna have a big impact upon this tourney. That Leverkusen team still has a lot of talent and I wouldn't count them out just yet. Remmeber guys, this is just one game in. Anything can happen in one game. That why they play so many in Champions league. It's very hard to fluke yourself to victory

  • But who's going to stop Real in a form like this?
