Ahn to Rovers?

  • there's been alot of talk about it in other threads, so I figured I'd set up a thread specific to the subject. Ahn is on trial with Rovers right now, so we'll see what happens in the coming days.

  • Good to hear, so you will no doubt have experienced Blackburn's legendary "medditeranian" weather and even more legendary fine cuisine? I shouldn't put us down though, if one thing we are very friendly people, if you can understand what we are saying... which (as my canadian wife came to realise) can be very tricky, especially after a few good ol pints of lager! :)

    HARTSON ON MOVE

    By Ray Hepburn

JOHN HARTSON will turn his back on Celtic and head back to England this summer.

Hartson, 30, has become a huge favourite at Park-head since he signed from Coventry for £6million three-and-a-half years ago.

But he wants to live closer to his estranged wife Lowri and their two children, who moved home to Cardiff from Glasgow in October.

Given the fast motorway links to Cardiff, Midlands clubs such as Birmingham City and Aston Villa will be among the favourites to land him.
Celtic are ready to turn to Wolves' Kenny Miller as a long-term replacement for Hartson.

    // -------------------------------

If Hartson's math is anything like Robbie Savage's, he could well find Blackburn to be *closer* to Cardiff than Birmingham. :) :)

  • Savage's "need to be close to his family" was complete BS. He just wanted an excuse to get out of Birmingham and I don't blame him. Someone did the math and the drive from Birmingham was actually a few miles shorter than from Blackburn.

Whatever the case I wouldn't be too excited to see Hartson at Blackburn. Sure Bellamy, Savage and Hughes have a history together, but Hartson is not the type of striker we need right now. We already have a giant in the team by the name of Kuqi who may not be as technical as Hartson, but he sure works harder than Hartson ever will. Plus, even with the seasoning Hartson received in Scotland, I doubt he could make it in England. He has already had a go of it and I doubt that Scotland has done him any good in terms of improving his game to match Premiership standards.

The only scenario I would be happy with is that he comes over cheap and he's paid cheap every week. Otherwise he'd not be a good buy. PLUS the direction Rovers need to take is away from Souness's plan of buying older players and ignoring the youth (Pedersen is an exception). Rovers need to look at the younger talents out there. Riordan from Hibs is an example...

  • From a footy fans point of view only, I wouldn't recommend visiting for a holiday/vacation. ;)
but I just happen to crazy enough to do that every so often. :D

  • I'm not to sure about this talk of Kenny Miller. The jump to the premiership is a big one and only a handful of players really make it,
Kenny Miller played in the premiership with Wolves a few years back, and scored against Man Utd, I think. Just saying. He's gone to Celtic anyway, apparently.

Ahn is an interesting player, but I agree that we need some help in the center to cover/replace Tugay, especially since Flitcroft is gone as well.

  • Ha ha very true. Maybe we should set up a media propaganda machine declaring that, as has been stated in the past, London is not the centre of lifestyle and culture in England.....it was actually Blackburn all along! Thus attracting the elite of world football to Ewood Park :D

I believe that illusion will last for, say, 5 seconds. I like your optimism, though. It is odd but there are several players who only want to play in the North of England, preferably Lancashire... Robbie Savage, Stephane Henchoz... (and I'm sure there are others!). Actually, from any footy fan's point of view, Lancashire is a great place to live -- about half of the EPL are in Lancashire, the other half are in London, and the odd two are in the NE. Ideal if you want to attend most of the away games.

To get Hartson, we should create a special recruiting committee, with Robbie making the "map" so that Mr. Hartson can see how no other footy club in England -- nay THE WORLD -- is closer to Cardiff than good ol' Blackburn. I think Robbie's up to the task; he seems right keen.

  • [...] If he really thought he needed a striker, I would certainly urge him to have another go at signing John Hartson from Celtic, he and bellamy where a strike force to be reckoned with whilst playing for Wales...under Mark Hughes coincidently. And with Bellamy, Savage, Hartson and possibly Delany, the Rovers would have the backbone of what at the time was a very strong Welsh team.

THAT'S AN EXCELLENT IDEA!!! (sorry for shouting, but I have been rifling through transfer gossip all day and Hartson is a brilliant idea)

  • the potential is definitely there. Just how he copes with the English game is what will determnine his success or lack of. Depending upon the financial terms I like the deal. We need a bit of selection in attack for the frequent times Bellamy's out injured.

  • I'd much rather have Kenny Miller.

  • The trial is off, thank god. Now, let's get Miller!!!!!

  • I'm not to sure about this talk of Kenny Miller. The jump to the premiership is a big one and only a handful of players really make it, alot may i add do in the first season and then fade away i.e Jon Stead. I am happy with the forward line we have, if Rovers were to splash out in the transfer market (which Hughes has repeated in the local press he wont) we would be needing to look for a replacement for Tugay. If he really thought he needed a striker, I would certainly urge him to have another go at signing John Hartson from Celtic, he and bellamy where a strike force to be reckoned with whilst playing for Wales...under Mark Hughes coincidently. just as well. I'm not sure that he would've fit that well anyway.
