Kenny Miller...Transfer possibility?

  • Kenny Miller, the Scottish striker from Wolves is looking to leave for a Premiership side. I am sure that there will be plenty of takers and Blackburn have been thrown into the hat as suitors. However, this is probably media linking us to him, but still if this is true I don't mind one bit. Would be a great addition even if Rovers get Ahn. He wouldn't pot 15 goals for us in a season but a respectable 9 or 10 would do nicely. It shows that 1) either the media see how toothless we are attacking without Bellamy and thus the need for a striker...ANY striker or 2) that rovers aren't sitting on their hands during the transfer window's opening. Whatever the outcome it's good to see us looking to make moves.

Personally, I'd rather see that Riordan kid from Hibs come over. He's young, would be cheap and he's Hibs' leading scorer. Maybe not as polished as Kenny but there's more upside...

  • I really don't think we need to buy another striker at this point. I'd rather invest in some midfield cover, to be honest, and since I doubt we have the money to buy a quality striker and a midfielder, we should probably just buy the midfielder. Jemal Johnson could be dangerous up front if he gets a chance, and if we buy another striker, he'll be pushed that much farther down the pecking order.

I think we need to focus our big money (whatever THAT is) on a striker. We have enough midfielders to get us by and if Hughesy feels we need one more cheaper player as cover then he'll get one but only after he gets his big target which is hopefully a striker. Sure, Kuqi and Dickov have given Rovers a great boost but we cannot keep throwing them out there as our lone strikers nor as a suitable partner for Bellamy. Kuqi's first touch with his feet is atrocious and Dikov can't gather a ball that's 5 feet tall or above. We need a proper striker to partner Bellamy or Dickov/Kuqi when Bellamy can't play. If Hughesy can get a first rate striker then our run for Europe is definitely on. If we keep the current strikeforce we will be on the outside looking in.

Sure Ahn and Kenny Miller weren't going to be the solutions, but it is good to see that Hughes IS looking around. He'll probably pull another gem out of his arse like he did last season...at least we can hope!! Maybe Dwayne DeRosario....

  • Come on? You cant get better than Dicov in terms of passion and the sheer urge to win, his battling qualities are second to non. These are the reasons he plays the role he does (and very well) for Rovers. I dont think a comparison between Dicov and Miller can be made, they are two very different kinds of player... its like comparing a striker to a defender.

Miller and Dickov are really quite similar. Full of running, never giving the opposition defence a moment of peace, a real pain in the arse for opposition defenders! Miller is just a better player though.

I may be basing my opinion far too much on international appearances though, Dickov hasn't really had a good one and can't get in the Scotland squad now. Miller has just had a great year for Scotland. It's not that Dickov's battling qualities haven't shown playing for Scotland, 4 bookings in 10 caps show they do. However, he has had nothing to go along with this. Miller, who has had his fair share of poor games for Scotland, has shown on a few occasions he can give any defence nightmares, including Germany and Italy.

It's not that I don't rate Dickov,he does a very decent and admirable job for Blackburn, I just wouldn't have him near the Scotland squad.

  • I think maybe Rovers should have made a move for Sutton before he moved to Birmingham. a perfect partner for Bellamy, you only have to look at there record while playing together with Celtic. plus its always good to see an old face back at Ewood ala Henning Berg.

  • It looks like Miller will be off to Celtic, which is a strange move for an ex-ger.

I would've prefered him to go to a team like Blackburn. He probably would've done quite well for Blackburn, he's 10 times the player Dickov is. Prone to inconsistancy and missing one-on-ones though...

Riordan is overrated IMO, scores some cracking goals though. Garry O'Conner at Hibs is a much better player.

  • yeah O'Connor is a better option than Riordan, but Riordan's going for cheap since his contract runs out soon and I doubt O'Connor would go for as cheap. I did see O'Connor play against the US in the friendly a few months back. He's definitely one to look at for Blackburn but again would Hibs let him go? And if so, for how much?

The state of Scottish football is definitely getting better, but as long as Dailly keeps finding games in the National squad, the wins won't come so easily...

Ahh Dailly, another 5 or 6 million of Uncle Jacks money very wisely spent by the "legend" that was Roy Hodgson. I have to think if it were not for that man, we would have far more money to spend on players today.

  • Fair do's pal.

  • he's 10 times the player Dickov is.

  • It's actually a great sign for Scotland that we can afford to leave a player like Dickov out. James McFadden, Kris Boyd, Garry O'Conner, Kenny Miller, Shaun Maloney, Derek Riordan and Craig Beattie are all good young strikers that mean guys like Dickov, McCulloch, Gray and Thompson, who are decent players, can get left out. We may lack world class strikers but the class of striker we do have we have in depth.

As I said before, Garry O'Conner is who Blackburn should be looking at, he'd be the perfect partner for Bellamy up front. Although I suspect Hartson will be on his way down south to Rovers, he's a good goalscorer but getting less fit every day!
