What the hell is wrong with my radio??? AM works but FM doesn't.?

  • I was just listening to my MP3 player and radio yesterday on my way to work.. everything fine. .. and later on a storm came through. And after work, tried turning my music back on.. But the radio.. OR mp3 player doesnt work!! no music no sound.
    And i use an FM transmitter by the way. and its still like that today, too so obviously the storm didn't damage towers.
    And i noticed today... if i turn the volume as high as it can go on my car stereo AND the mp3 player.. i can hear the music but its almost tooo low to even hear. What the hell happened to my radio?? I have a 2000 pontiac sunfire. I cant hear radio or mp3!!!!


  • lightining in the air could have killed the electronics in the radio... spend 100$ at wal-mart decent radio and all the wires to hook it


  • The AM and FM tuners in a car radio are totally different items. The FM tuner is usually a small metal can, and there is nothing to say it can't be damaged by an EMP during a thunderstorm. The AM section is usually hardier, If the FM tuner is out, your FM transmitter is useless to. Take it to a tech.


  • you most likely have a short from probably some water got up in the wires. But you will probably be better off getting a new radio. Or maybe it can be the speakers got a little water got in the speaker wires or the speakers itself. All i can say is go and get it checked out by a professional.


  • my guess is it could have messed something up with ur antenia....or it static electricity in the air could have messed up the wires some where in your car
