Dog daycare's do you like enroll your dog and sign a contract?

  • I was think on opening a dog daycare I want to know do they usually make you enroll your dog and sign a contract?
p.s. Not to be rude but please don't say check in your area we have no dog daycare's here to speak of so I would be the first.

  • You need a business license. I'm not sure how much they make. Most daycares are in conjunction with boarding kennels or vet clinics. I'm not sure a daycare itself would be very lucrative. You do need a contract and a waiver form for the owners.

  • I just enrolled my boy in daycare today. We're very excited.

We had to pass a temperament exam.
My boy was assessed and then introduced to the pack to see if he's well socialized.
I had to provide proof he was fixed, and proof of vaccinations.
    I signed a contract.
We start after Thanksgiving, this Tuesday.

  • They have to have lots of information on you and the dog and yes, you do have to sign a contract. There are lots of legal issues involved with services like this so you need to get a good lawyer.....

  • There is generally a contract outlining the services that the daycare will and won't provide, what happens in the event of an emergency, liability issues, cancellation policy, etc. Most will also 'interview' your dog prior to accepting them to make sure that the dog is non-aggressive and social with a wide variety of other dogs. At most doggy daycares, it's a pay-by-visit deal, the owners reserve the days they are bringing in the dog, and pay each day when they pick them up. Some will have package deals (like a week, a month, or a certain number of days in a week or month) for a cut-rate. You'll have to figure out what works for you. You will need a business license and liability insurance to operate, and I would recommend enlisting an attorney to make sure all your bases are covered on the contract and you don't leave yourself open to excessive liability.

  • Yes, dogs are enrolled in a daycare. Almost all businesses have some sort of contract for legal purposes.

Generally, dog daycares keep a database with all the important information they may need about a visiting dog. First time visitors should have vaccination records and spray and neuter certificates on hand. Other information you may need is any behavioral problems (aggressive with other dogs, etc.) or any medications they're currently taking.

  • how would i know

    p.s. not to be rude

  • Yes, and they do temperament testing to make sure the dog can get along with other dogs before accepting it. They also require vaccinations to be up-to-date and the dog to be healthy. They are required by law to do certain things like keep a copy of the rabies certificate on file.

The dog daycare we use has package discounts if you pay for 5 or more days or half-days at a time. You don't have to commit to more than one day (or half day) at a time, but you do have to pay for the day in advance (at the time you leave the dog, usually.)

I would suggest that you search on the internet for websites of dog daycares, and look at their terms and conditions, contract, requirements for accepting a dog, facilities, etc. to get ideas.
