My dog is losing chunks of fur what is wrong?

  • Sounds like either he's blowing his coat (normal) or
    Has a thyroid or horomonal problem (not normal).

  • What is his breed? There could be many factors that would cause him to loose his fur.


  • Their could be several reasons - getting the winter coat / shedding the summer coat.
    Allergy to flea's or Flea treatment.
    Food Allergy.
    Have you been using Air fresheners etc
    Stress
    You don't give many details of your dog ... Breed, Age etc
    Any Doubt and you should always as a loving pet owner go to a vet


  • If your dog is a double coated breed, it is probably just blowing its coat to get ready for winter.

    We could use some more info: age, breed, etc.


  • Put some flea medicine on because it might be the fleas itching it then your dog scratching the hair off.

  • This will depend on the breed and also whether it is a long hair dog or a short hair and whether it is inside or outside primarily.Dogs shed more usually inside than they do outside.If the shedding is accompanied by redness of the skin,it could be mange or some other rash.An easy treatment for that is some type of oil or petroleum jelly.But you need to try to keep the dog from licking it off.It probably wouldn't hurt the dog but it would defeat the purpose if the dog licked it back off.
