MediaCenter start-up problem

  • Hello,

I wanted to update my XBMC to version 2.01, so i downloaded the XBMC 2.01 T3CH version. I unpacked all the files and copied this to my Q: drive. I replaced the previous files. (i did make a backup) But when i'm booting my system freezes at the XBOX MC logo. Does anybody have an idea how to undo this? I can't acces my xbox via ftp anymore..

    Thanks!

  • My bad, you need to hold the white button and the 'y' button at the same time.

This will open the fatal error recovery screen, where you can ftp.

Holding both thumbsticks actually resets to all default settings.

ok, sounds like you've got a multi-boot config (different buttons boot to different dashes) as you can access the xbox dash. (Softmod, i assume?)
Make sure that stuff is alright. Also, if you can boot to xbmc alright after ftping, you should be fine.

    Keep us updated, good luck.

  • hi,

i can't get into 'emergency' mode by clicking both thumbsticks.. still freezes at the XBMC logo... and i don't know if i have a separate boot. I can get into the normal xbox dash.

  • Doesn't work either.. still jams.. I can choose if i want to boot the reg. xbox dash by pressing the eject button on my xbox. If i want to boot the via the executer 2 i have to press the power button. A dual boot indeed. .. any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Q: is not a "temp/cache drive". Its a logical map from where ever the XBE is running.
so if you have F:AppsXBMCDefault.xbe, then Q: = F:AppsXBMC. In any case, Bart, where did you see any instructions telling you to overwrite everything in Q????

  • Executer 2 should allow you to ftp i believe, regardless of the dashboard... do some research on that.

At the very least, you could DL an Evox or Avalaunch boot disc and just install one of those in place of your xbmc boot option.

Sounds like your install of XBMC is totally f'ed, man. I know that those could help you out.

Good luck, i'll be checking the forum again later this evening, let me know.

  • hey man, the Q: is a temp/cache drive, doesn't actually exist.

What you need to do is start xbmc in emergency (ftp) mode by holding down (clicking) both thumbsticks at boot.
this boots to a screen that allows you to FTP to the box. I would suggest just deleting your xbmc folder (should be in F:/apps/XBMC) and FTP over a fresh copy.

Does your box boot directly to xbmc or do you have a separate boot dash (avalaunch, etc.)?

If it boots directly to XBMC, you need to ensure your shortcut or .xbe is still proper.

Let me know what the deal is, this is easy to fix.
