Does shame still play a role in punishments today?

  • I'm learning about corporal punishment and liberalism in Germany during the early 1800.

  • Yes but that is not Gods way. Gods way is grace. Guilt and shame is a sin. 1 John 1:9 takes care of all that. You are to just change your way of thinking (from the sin that causes you shame) and try not to do it again... volitional responsibility

  • Maybe

  • Yes, it is to learn from your mistakes.

  • That's quite kinky....shame on you.

  • I do not believe shame plays as important of a role in punishments today as it did many years ago. Unfortunately, citations, jail time, probation, and prison terms are a rather normal occurrence in these times. There is a sense of normalacy about it. Just take a look at the news programs and the response they get when they talk about the trouble that politicians, Church leaders, and celebrities get into. They don't seem very ashamed and the punishments do not really seem to impact them or others from following in their footsteps.

  • it would if there were punishments to day.

  • It does with small children for certain things like, taking something that belongs to someone else, and hitting and biting>>>>.maybe!
But with adults?, forget it>> at least the adults on here!
If you try to shame some of the Antis, on this site?, right and wrong seems to go over the top of their heads!'

People like Anti Jehovah Witnesses, and Anti Mormons, and Anti Muslims, seem to think that their opinions matters so much more than others, who are NOT bigoted!
But like the old saying goes, ''As long as they are picking on them, they are leaving the rest of us alone''!
I guess that makes it okay! Right???

  • I'm thinking "Abu Ghraib Prison"...the American soldiers used tactics that seemed to use "shame" on the prisoners there when they made them wear dog collars and leashes and other *stuff*. Ouch!

  • Not since they took away the stockades. Man I miss the stockades.
