* the same exact files loaded fine in xbmc when burned to the cd-r, so it isn't the video format
* smaller divx ~100mb files work fine when burned to the dvd-r, so it isn't the media
i use udf to burn my dvd-rs.
is there any way i can change this, or will i have to continue using cd-rs?
i had similar issues in the past and finally gave up.
i had pretty much exhausted the following factors to no avail:
1. dvd media - tried cheap and expensive brands, + and - r
2. dvd drive - tried xbox samsung drive, xbox tweaked philips drive, and pc dvdrom drive (same pc dvdrom drive can read the disc when connected to the pc)
3. dvd format - tried iso only, xudf only, and bridged format
4. dvd burning software - tried nero 6.6.0.3, roxio, and sonic
observation:
1. if the disc contains only 230mb or less files, all combinations of media/drive/format seem to work.
2. if the disc contains 6 700mb files, sometimes it will play the first 2-3 files, sometimes none at all. interesting thing is for the same disc, different dvd drives sometimes behave differently; for example, the pc dvdrom reads 0 file while the philips drive reads the first 2.
3. directory content is always displayed correctly.
would anyone who has consistent success in reading dvd containing 6 700mb files care to share you "secrets?"
note : i have a samsung xbox drive.
