Husband's in the Navy...does he get any leave when I have our baby in December?

  • Hi everyone! I was wondering if there's any 'given' time after our daughter is born or if he will have to use all of his saved up leave time! I heard someone mention that you're given 14 days now, but we're not sure!


  • He'll have to use his Regular Leave. There is no free leave for being a new parent. The 14 days just means the command will allow him to take 14 days of regular leave.

  • It depends on what his unit is doing at the time. Generally, they try very hard to grant leave for this. I assume he's already notified his chain of command about the impending birth... if not... he needs to do so ASAP.

    He has to use regular leave. He should have a pre-approved leave chit ready to go with the start date/time left open.
