MS Office Update configuration

  • Hi.

I cannot figure out how to configure Office Update (http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx).
Whatever I do I always get the same page after clicking on "Check for Updates" (see file attached)

Strange as I do not have any problem to access to Windows Update.

    Thanks

  • If you don't allow cookies it won't work. At least I just tried with cookies disabled and it didn't for me.

P.S. - I don't get the same error message that you do it just hangs at 40%

  • Cheers

  • What are your Active content settings for officeupdate.microsoft.com?

Also check all your logs to see if Outpost indicates that it is blocking anything. As a last resort try running it with outpost shutdown to see if you get the same result.

  • Does anyone find a way as I still could not make it work and I always end up on the same page (see image attached on my first post).

In order to make it work I have to stop OP which is not very suitable...

    Cheers

  • Hi,

I have been playing around with this. :)

I think I found a possible solution, at least it works for me. :D

After serveral minutes, hours , it slapped me. The Web Pages tab under Privacy has five options, under Exclusions when editing the properties there is only four. The extra option is Referrers.

Enable Referrers on the Web Pages tab and it should work. This is of course with office.microsoft.com as an exclusion and JavaScript and ActiveX enabled. I did test this out with Cookies disabled and it worked.

Not enabling ActiveX, results in a "The Office Update Catalog cannot be displayed" page at about after 10% on the gage during the check.

  • What are your Active content settings for officeupdate.microsoft.comSee file attached. However I tried with all options Enabled. But same results

check all your logOnly cookies...(see file attached)

As a last resort try running it with outpost shutdown to see if you get the same result.Of course I already tried that and without Outpost it is working well.

  • Is there any way to get Referrers only for office.microsoft.com and not as a general rule ?

  • As I said I also tried with all options enabled. It concerns also the cookies one.

Anyway I never accepted cookies from this site in the past (before OP) and I never got any problem to access to the update section.

Maybe another link somewhere which is making the problem that I did not catch.

  • No, there is not. However, the option to set referers on an individual basis has been requested for several years and it should be implemented in the next op version.
