Hotels: Public Place

A hotel is a gorgeous place to stay and relax when it comes to vacations or business trips. Comfortable rooms, great recreation facilities, and fabulous entertainment shows can keep you and your family in the hotel for hours! There are many activities to enjoy and the facilities are endless! Staying in a hotel can be a fun experience, but it can be dangerous. Hotels are generally a public space, anyone can just enter the hotel even if they do not have a room. Keeping you and your family safe is the key when you are staying somewhere you are not familiar with.

When you are staying at hotel, whether for a business trip or for a relaxing education, you must know a few safety tips. When you are ordering room service, remember to ask who is at the door before you actually open the door. Many of the times, I catch myself anticipating for room service to bring up my food, I forget to ask who is at the door. If you are unsure when someone responds and says they are an employee of the hotel, I suggest you call the front desk and ask if anyone was sent up to your room. Otherwise, don’t open the door. If you have your family with you and you have young children, be sure to teach them the same tactics. Keeping everyone safe is very important.

When you are returning to hotel, especially on a late evening, be sure to observe your surroundings. Check around your surroundings and notice what is going on around you. Pay attention if there is anyone following behind you. When you enter the hotel, I highly recommend always using the main entrance. Keep your keys in your bag or pocket until you arrive at your room, keeping keys or cards dangling in public will attract more attention to yourself. When you are out in public, don’t flash your gorgeous jewels and money, it strongly invites robbers to come you. If you want to keep some important documents or valuables in a safe place, you can always use the hotel’s safe deposit box. Many big hotel chains have safety deposit boxes in the room already.

When you are staying at hotel and you happen to have a joint room, make sure your lock is locked. If not, immediately contact you’re the front desk. You don’t want a stranger to end up in your room when you are unaware of it all. Make sure your hotel room’s sliding doors or windows are locked when you are not in the room. It is very easy for people to enter your room especially if your room isn’t high from the ground. Remember not to invite any strangers to your room, they may be untrustworthy. At all times, use the hotel door’s locking devices. I suggest you lock all your locks, even when you are just in your room. Being safe is better than sorry.

With the additional terrorist attacks lately, hotels are becoming a huge target. Be sure to check out additional information on your hotel, if it makes you comfortable go for it. But you can never be sure where and when terrorists attack, it might not even be a hotel! When you are leaving your hotel room, remember to bring your keys or card! Be sure to close your door completely and double check if your door is locked. If you are opening your door, remember to ask who is at your door. If the person claims they are staff, you can always call the front desk to make sure if they are. You can always check you’re the security view port on your television screen to see who it is visually. If they look suspicious, call the front desk immediately.

If you do in fact travel and stay at hotels often, I suggest buying a portable alarm system and hanging it on your door knob. The great thing about this device is that, if your hotel door is opens, the sound of the alarms goes off and you are aware that someone entered your room. This device is the greatest when you are sleeping at night. When you staying in a hotel, you should be feel safe regardless of where you are. Knowing a few tips will definitely keep you safe and help you no matter what.
