Making an object spin?

  • So I took an object and created a new movie clip.

I went to Frame 5 and hit F6 for a Keyframe. I then made it very skinny in Frame 5, keyframed to Frame 6, and flipped it horizontally. I then made another Keyframe at Frame 10 and made the object back to its original size, only flipped horizontally.

    I tweened from Frame 1 to 5, and Frame 6 to 10.

The first tween does what I'd like but the second is.... crazy. I even tried deleting frames 6 to 10, copy and pasting frames 1 to 5 at frame 6 and reversing the animation, but that didnt work either.

What am I doing wrong? How can I make it spin?

  • I'm actually trying to make it spin, not rotate.

As in, tween along the X axis, as opposed to rotate like hands on a clock....

UPDATE: Enclosed is an example file of what I've got so far. The worm spins on the x-axis but, after one loop, just spins back the other way. I'm trying to get it to spin in the same direction in an infinite loop.

I've tried reversing the frames, but other than that, I don't know why it spins back the other way or how to make it not do that.

    Any suggestions for that?

  • create a tween from 1 to 10.
enter 2 frames with f6 at equal distances between 1 and 10. anyway, lets say frame 1, frame 5 , frame 10, and frame 15.
for 5 rotate the object with 120 degrees, and 10 rotate it with 270 degrees.

  • It's best not to manually rotate objects if you're tweening them from the timeline.

Firstly, create your movieclip and decide on where you want to start and end the rotation tween. Make sure that the last frame is a keyframe.

Select the frames, then in the Properties pane select "Tween:" and set to "Motion". You will notice that the space below has been filled with boxes, one of which is "Rotate:". set this to the direction that you want, and then type in the number of times you would like.

If you plan on looping this animation you should select the second last frame of the tween and make it a new keyframe (F6), then delete the last such that the last and first frames are not the same.

Hope this helps :thumb: - I've provided a couple of examples.
